Newcastle Utd news: Eddie Howe targets £30m move for Liverpool and England defender Jarell Quansah
Following their Carabao Cup triumph, Newcastle United are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window.
Alexander Isak’s future has dominated headlines, with Arsenal and Liverpool leading the race for the Swede.
The Magpies are hopeful that the 25-year-old will stay in the North East, however, the probability of that happening hinges on Champions League qualification.
Newcastle have already secured a spot in next season’s Europa Conference League and sit just two points off the top four in the Premier League.
Newcastle United keen on Jarell Quansah
Ahead of another European expedition, Eddie Howe is looking to reinforce his squad and has identified Liverpool and England defender Jarell Quansah as a top target.
According to the Times, Newcastle hope that an offer of £30million would tempt Arne Slot into selling the central defender.
It is unknown whether the Reds would be willing to let the 22-year-old leave the club, however, Liverpool are looking to raise funds for a major rebuild at Anfield this summer.
In need of more game time?
Despite being one of England’s most promising youngsters, Quansah has struggled for game time under Slot.
The defender has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season, being utilised at centre-back and right-back.
With Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté ahead of him in the pecking order, it has been hard for the Englishman to nail down regular minutes this season.
Newcastle are a team on the up, and with Sven Botman the only Magpies’ centre-back under the age of 30, there could be a huge opportunity for Quansah to establish himself.
