Aston Villa have agreed a deal with Chelsea to sign winger Alejandro Garnacho, with the Argentine now closing in on a move to Villa Park.
The agreement is understood to be a season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy, with the conditions believed to be straightforward to trigger.
Chelsea believe a permanent transfer would be worth around £42.7 million (€50m), which matches the West London club’s valuation of the winger.
Garnacho only joined Chelsea from Manchester United last summer in a deal worth £40 million, but he is now set to leave Stamford Bridge after just one season.
The 22-year-old struggled to establish himself in Chelsea’s starting line-up during the 2025/26 campaign.
He made 24 Premier League appearances but started just 14 matches, scoring once as competition for places increased in Enzo Maresca’s squad.
Garancho and Rogers switch sides
Chelsea’s summer business has played a major role in Garnacho’s expected departure.
The Blues recently completed the British-record signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, adding another attacking option to an already competitive forward line.
Rogers joined the West London side for £117m, making him the most expensive British player in history.
Chelsea have been open to sales for Garnacho, as new manager Xabi Alonso continues to reshuffle his squad ahead of pre-season and the 2026/27 season.
The Argentine did not report to pre-season to allow him to pursue a move away from the club.

Fresh start under Unai Emery
The move would hand Garnacho the opportunity to revive his career under Unai Emery, who just won his fifth Europa League title.
For Chelsea, Garnacho’s departure continues a busy summer of arrivals and departures as the club reshapes its squad under Alonso.
The deal is expected to be completed once the remaining formalities are finalised, with Garnacho set to become Aston Villa’s latest signing before the new Premier League season gets underway.
He will join Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Modou Keba Cisse as Villa’s latest summer signings.
