Man City news: Pep Guardiola targeting Arsenal’s William Saliba and AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders
Manchester City have looked a shadow of their former selves this campaign, with Pep Guardiola’s side in danger of missing out on Champions League football next season.
The Cityzens are sat fifth in the Premier League table, one point off Chelsea in fourth, with the battle for European football set to go down to the wire.
City have not missed out on a spot in the Champions League since the 2009/10 season, when Mark Hughes was replaced by Roberto Mancini in December.
Nevertheless, the North West club are preparing for a huge summer transfer window in hopes that they can recapture their former dominance, with some huge names linked to the Etihad.
Manchester City want William Saliba
Since nailing down a regular spot in Mikel Arteta’s backline, William Saliba has established himself as one of the best central defenders on the planet.
Dubbed a ‘Rolls Royce’ centre-back, the Frenchman’s top performances have not gone unnoticed after reportedly catching the eye of Real Madrid.
According to Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Manchester City will also try to sign the 24-year-old this summer.
Saliba would not be the first Arsenal star to swap the Emirates Stadium for the Etihad.
Who could forget Emmanuel Adebayor’s full-length sprint of the pitch to celebrate in front of the away end or Bacary Sagna signing for City on a free transfer?
Not to mention Samir Nasri, Kolo Touré and Gaël Clichy’s moves, too.
However, fear not, Arsenal fans – with two years left on his current deal in N5, Saliba has appeared to commit his future to the Gunners.
Tijjani Reijnders top midfield target for Manchester City
As per Teamtalk, Manchester City have been in contact with Serie A side AC Milan over the transfer of Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders.
The 26-year-old has had an outstanding campaign, having scored 13 goals and set up a further four from midfield.
Since signing for Milan in July 2023, the Dutchman has gone from strength to strength and is now a top target for Guardiola in the summer.
With Kevin de Bruyne, İlkay Gündoğan, Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic all over the age of 30, it is no secret that City are in dire need of some fresh faces – and legs – in their midfield.
English veteran Kyle Walker, who is currently on loan at AC Milan, has been tipped to stay in Italy next season, so he could be used as leverage in any deal for Reijnders.
