MLS news: Kevin De Bruyne linked with David Beckham’s Inter Miami as Lionel Messi set to sign new deal
Following the announcement that Kevin De Bruyne will leave Manchester City at the end of the season, teams around the globe have been lining up for the Belgian’s signature.
The 33-year-old joined City in 2015 from Bundesliga outfit VfL Wolfsburg and has gone on to make 415 appearances for the Sky Blues.
Hampered by a hamstring injury, the midfielder has only played 33 matches in all competitions this season.
Although the Belgian and Man City captain has still shown his world-class ability, tallying 13 goal contributions.
MLS to secure another superstar?
While Saudi Arabian clubs are dreaming of a move for the City playmaker, several MLS outfits are also in the running.
Expansion side San Diego FC were reportedly close to an agreement for the midfielder earlier in the year, but according to Florian Plettenberg, Inter Miami are now ‘very interested’ in signing the Belgian international.
Talks are not believed to be at an advanced stage, however, it would be no surprise to see David Beckham’s club sign yet another megastar.
Ex-Barcelona stars Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba all currently play their football at the Chase Stadium, while Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuaín also ended their careers in Florida.
Lionel Messi ‘expected’ to sign new Inter Miami deal
Transfer incomings may be put on the backburner for Miami, though, with a new contract for Messi a clear priority for the club.
As per The Athletic’s David Ornstein, the Argentine is expected to extend his stay in the United States.
The 37-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of the year, with Javier Mascherano hoping to keep hold of his star man - and former teammate - for at least another year.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner has scored 42 goals and set up a further 21 since signing for the American side in July 2023.
