Arsenal news: Bukayo Saka and William Saliba contract latest as Gabriel attracts Saudi Pro League interest
Several players in Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal squad, including Bukayo Saka and William Saliba, are approaching the end of their current deals.
BBC Sport recently reported that talks were set to take place between the North London club and Saka, who has two years left on his current contract at the Emirates Stadium.
The England international suffered a serious hamstring tear in December and has been sidelined ever since - a huge blow to the Gunners’ Premier League title challenge.
Emphasising his importance to the club, Arsenal are open to discussions over a new deal, aiming to secure the 23-year-old’s long-term future in N5.
William Saliba and Gabriel due renewals
However, Arsenal will soon need to address the future of their centre-back partnership as well.
Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes also have contracts that expire in the summer of 2027, with the latter reportedly attracting interest from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr, according to talkSport.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s team could offer the Brazillian a significant salary increase, but his desire to stay in a competitive league may influence his decision to remain with Arsenal.
Real Madrid are also on the hunt for a new central defender and have outlined Saliba as one of their top targets.
Whilst offering new deals to the trio could end up impacting their attempts to sign a new striker for next season, the club could look to offload deadweight to free up their wage bill.
New sporting director set to be busy
Thomas Partey and Jorginho are set to be free agents this summer, freeing up space in the Arsenal squad.
However, Arteta is said to be trying to persuade the latter to extend his stay in North London.
In what is shaping up to be a humongous task for the new sporting director, Andrea Berta, the club may have to sort out new deals for Arsenal’s rising stars, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri.
The Hale End products both signed professional contracts when they turned 17, but the rules meant they could only be three-year deals.
With Nwaneri turning 18 on Friday, both will be due for new contracts to reward their form with the first team.
Berta, who replaces the previous sporting director Edu, will certainly have his hands full over the upcoming months.
